However, Brody suffers from a horrible syndrome. Brody’s Mecp2 symptoms include: chronic lung disease, multiple allergies, developmental delays, low muscle tone, constipation, severe mental retardation, frequent respiratory infections & Pneumonia, cannot sit unassisted, cannot walk, cannot talk, gets 100% of his nutrition through a G-tube in his belly, and has seizures every single day, is on constant oxygen, plus many other health problems. He is totally dependent on others for his care.Sadly, he wasn’t always this way. When he was younger, he was able to do a lot of things on his own before this disease took it all away. Brody had 3 uncles and a cousin that died from this syndrome.
There is hope! Dr. Huda Zoghbi, a world renown doctor in Houston, wants to conduct a research study that could help Brody and the other children affected by this disease. Her study will aim to REVERSE this syndrome in a mouse model. However, the study cannot be started until $80,000 is raised.
Please help to give hope to Brody and many other boys and a few girls for a healthy and bright future.
The “401 Project” encourages all 200 MECP2 Duplication families to each raise $401.00 by April 1, 2012.
